Lottery Curse Horror Stories – Can Winning the Jackpot Ruin Your Life?

The media loves shocking stories because they sell. They rarely report on people that won the lottery and then go on to live happily ever after. But they do report on people that win the lottery and, subsequently, go on to ruin their lives. They call it the lottery curse and they make it seem like horror stories are the common ending to a big jackpot win.

Here are a few examples of lottery horror stories that you could find in the media:

  • William Bud Post: Won more than $16 million in 1988 and ended up bankrupt and living on disability checks.
  • Rick Camat: Won $87 million in 2000 and was shot to death by police after he allegedly was firing off a gun at a football game
  • Ibi Roncaioli: Won $5 million in 1991 and was poisoned by her husband after losing the family fortune on gambling.

These types of stories are rampant in the media. But does winning the lottery really make you do bad things? Is winning the lottery really a curse? Can winning the jackpot ruin your life? The answer, despite what the media might lead us to believe, is no.

If the lottery is a curse, it would mean that it would make a winner sad. Yet people that win the lottery tend to be happier. Camelot, which runs the UK National Lottery did a major study about lottery winners. Here are  data hk  some interesting facts from the study:

  • 55% of the lottery winners they surveyed said that they were happier since winning the lottery.
  • 43% said that they were happy prior to winning the lottery, and just as happy after winning the lotto.
  • Only 2% said that they were less happy after the jackpot win

What do all these stats mean? It means that you could still go ahead and dream about winning a big jackpot; it won’t ruin your life.
